Soldier killed, three hurt in J&K ceasefire violations | India News

JAMMU: A soldier was killed while another was injured after Pakistan violated ceasefire along the Line of Control in Nowshera sector in Jammu & Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Saturday morning. Two women were injured in a similar breach of truce in Poonch district in the evening, while Pakistan again violated ceasefire in Nowshera.
The triple violation came barely two days after four heavily-armed Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists were killed in an encounter on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Nagrota and a day after a Pakistani drone was spotted around 500m inside the Indian territory.
Early Saturday, Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing and heavy mortar shelling targeting forward posts and civilian areas in Nowshera, to which Indian troops retaliated effectively. “Havildar Patil Sangram Shivaji, from Nigave village in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur, was critically injured in the cross-border fire exchange and later succumbed,” Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said.
The second breach of truce took place around 6pm in Nowshera.
Around 6.15pm, Pakistan again violated ceasefire in Poonch’s Dallan sector, in which two women — Sakina Bi (40) and Mansha Bi (18) — were injured. They were admitted to Poonch district hospital, confirmed Poonch SSP Ramesh Angral. Heavy shelling also took place in the district’s Malti and Degwan areas.
The cross-border firing in Poonch continued intermittently till the time of going to press.
